Huntsville’s very own Grissom High School’s cheer team is bringing home a national title after representing their school at the Varsity National High School Cheerleading Championship.
The competition took place for larger schools like Grissom between Feb. 6-8, and the Tigers’ win was in the Division 1 Varsity Co-Ed Non- Tumbling division.
This is the cheer team’s first national championship win, the Grissom cheerleading team posted on Instagram Feb. 10.
“There’s so much doubt thrown when you start a competitive program from scratch but we’ve had some who never stopped pushing for this dream with us! 5 years later…We did it!”
Grissom received a score of 88.5 with zero deductions during the finals.
Last year, the team placed third in the same division.
The Tigers also competed in the “Game Day” competition for their division, which “demonstrates the game day environment at their school,” according to Varsity. Grissom received eighth place in this competition.
Earlier this school year, Grissom cheer was the runner-up in the Alabama High School Athletic Association 7A cheer competition.
