Early summer is a great time to get outdoors in North Alabama, and luckily this area provides some fantastic opportunities to get outside, soak up the beauty of nature and even get a little exercise.

If you are looking for some great guided hikes in the area over the next several weeks, check these out:

Harvest Square Nature Preserve – May 25

February hikes
I love hiking at Harvest Square. (Land Trust of North Alabama)

Harvest Square Nature Preserve is an easy-to-traverse property offering a variety of interesting plant and animal life.

Hiking at Bethel Spring – June 1

Celebrate National Trails Day with a hike at Bethel Spring Nature Preserve, including one of the largest waterfalls in Madison County. This trail is moderately difficult because of the 400 feet of elevation gain needed to get to the waterfall.

Foraging Hike at Wade Mountain – June 8

Forager Casey Lanier will lead you through the preserve on a route that will be determined the day of the event.

Blevins Gap North – June 15

Hiking at Blevins Gap always includes some fabulous scenery. (Land Trust of North Alabama)

For Nature Photography Day, take a trail less traveled and complete a small loop comprised of three trails–the Walsingham, Chittamwood and Fanning trails.

Hike at Green Mountain – June 22

Green Mountain Nature Preserve is one of my favorite local hikes. (Land Trust of North Alabama)

On the first official weekend of summer come for a refreshing hike at Green Mountain Nature Preserve. This hike along Alum Hollow Trail will take hikers to Alum Falls and Alum Cave, two scenic spots on the preserve.

Hickory Cove Hike – June 29

hiking
One of the longer hikes by the Land Trust is at Hickory Cove. (Land Trust of North Alabama)

Hikers will walk this preserve’s primary trail, the Legacy Loop. Covering much of the preserve, this hike will show you some of the beauty this hillside has to offer.
