High school football playoffs begin Friday for some local schools
Well, believe it or not, the regular season is over for high school football teams, which means only a select few teams get to continue the 2022 season as the high school football playoffs begin this week.
A handful of Huntsville area schools made the AHSAA playoffs, and some even have home games this week in the first round. Here’s what the playoff picture looks like for our local schools:

The state’s highest classification includes several Huntsville-area schools, but only two of those schools made the playoffs this year. Huntsville High School and Bob Jones High School each have their work cut out for them Friday night, as Bob Jones plays top-ranked Hoover High School and Huntsville plays defending state champions Thompson High School.
Here’s the Class 7A playoff schedule for the first round:
- Dothan at Foley
- Fairhope at Auburn
- Mary Montgomery at Central-Phenix City
- Enterprise at Baker
- Bob Jones at Hoover
- Hewitt-Trussville at Florence
- Vestavia Hills at Austin
- Huntsville at Thompson
Class 6A Playoffs
The Class 6A playoffs include one Madison County school, as Hazel Green High School will play Muscle Shoals in a North Alabama clash. Here’s the 6A playoff schedule for Round 1:

- Wetumpka at Saraland
- McAdory at Homewood
- Spanish Fort at Pike Road
- St. Paul’s at Carver-Montgomery

Class 5A Playoffs
Although no Madison County schools made the 5A playoffs, some schools nearby will look to keep their seasons alive in the first round of the playoff Friday:

Class 4A Playoffs
Two local teams will play in the Class 4A playoffs, with Randolph hostong a first round game against Rogers. Madison County will go to Deshler for their first round game. Here’s the Class 4A playoff schedule:
