How to make sure Aldridge Creek stays clean
Reading time: 2 minutes
The Aldridge Creek Greenway is one of my favorite areas in Huntsville. The greenery, running water and adjacent parks are always a must for me if I want to spend time outside.
If you’ve spent time around there, you’ll notice it stays pretty clean, but it’s not only the city that makes sure of that. Read below who gives their time to making sure our Greenways stay clean and kept-up.
Who works on Aldridge Creek?
The Green Team has a group of volunteers giving their time and energy to pick up trash that washes up Aldridge Creek or left by litter. Ben Denio started one of these groups, deciding that he didn’t have to wait for somebody else to make a difference.
Denio is an army veteran and started his group in 2022 as a part of the Green Team’s Adopt-a-Stream initiative.
“Sometimes, all it takes is one person to take the lead and start a program and ask for help from others.”
Ben Denio, exceptional Green Team volunteer (quote sourced from City of Huntsville)
Denio states that volunteer groups can range from 2 – 20 people, picking up sometimes 15 full trash bags or more.
Denio’s group is allotted a 5-1/2 segment of the Greenway to keep clean according to the Adopt-a-Stream program. Check out their Facebook page for information on how you can be of service to Friends of the Greenway, or even how to adopt your own Greenway segment to keep clean.
You can contact the Green Team for more information about volunteering by phone (256-532-5326) or email (Green.Team@huntsvilleal.gov).
