Huntsville International Airport is among a bevy of airports feeling the effects of a Federal Aviation Administration emergency order issued last week directing staff reductions at 40 major airports across the country.

Because HVS is not one of the major hub airports, the effects are not nearly as severe, but passengers have seen delays and cancellations.

While HSV is not one of the 40 airports ordered to cut staff, the Federal Aviation Administration’s plan to slash airline capacity due to the government shutdown has hit some of the nation’s busiest airports, including in Atlanta, Dallas, New York City, Chicago and Los Angeles.

Huntsville International Airport is experiencing some cancellations and delays as a result of the emergency order, although not as many as can be expected at larger, hub airports, according to HSV spokesperson Mary Swanstrom.

“We encourage travelers to stay in close touch with their airlines before arriving at the airport. Download your airline’s app and opt in to receive push notifications. These can alert you to sudden changes in your schedule.”

Mary Swanstrom, Public Relations Manager, Huntsville International Airport

Swanstrom added that travelers through HSV can see flight status real-time on the airport’s website at flyhuntsville.com on the Arrivals and Departures pages.
