NEW: Huntsville moving forward on Mill Creek redevelopment project
Reading time: 2 minutes
After receiving a $50 million grant from the Department of Housing & Urban Development, the City of Huntsville has announced it is officially accepting this funding and moving forward with its Mill Creek redevelopment project.
The development area, which will be located west of Memorial Parkway along Governors Drive, will provide new workforce housing, retail options and quality health and childcare services and facilities.
Additionally, the city approved crucial agreements that will be key to moving the project forward.
These agreements with Urban Strategies Inc. and McCormack Baron Salazar Inc. will ensure the project receives the appropriate services and housing to improve the surrounding community.
“These agreements are critical steps to getting the Mill Creek project closer to the start of construction. Together with the Huntsville Housing Authority, we are forming a talented, experienced team of experts who will help guide Mill Creek to reaching its full potential.
Mayor Tommy Battle
This is an exciting step in a project that has been years in the making. It is more likely that Mill Creek, a mixed-income community, will be able to provide resources and pathways to success for its residents upon the project’s completion.
