Huntsville muralist’s passion is now her profession
Reading time: 3 minutes

If you have spent any time in the Huntsville city limits, chances are good that you’ve seen the artwork of Jessie Andrews, better known in the community as “Honeyblood.”
But her artwork is not in a museum or an art show. It’s literally in the city. She’s a muralist who has created some of the most recognizable work in the Huntsville area.
How muralist Jessie Andrews became ‘Honeyblood’
Andrews is a self-taught artist who was born in Huntsville and grew up just down the road in Athens. She returned to the Huntsville area after studying nutrition and psychology in college.
When she decided to start sharing her art professionally, she didn’t necessarily want to attach her real name to the Instagram account, which inspired her to use an old high school nickname—Honeyblood—as her professional name.
She started her journey as a professional muralist by first sharing her work online, which led to her being commissioned to paint one of Huntsville’s most popular and recognizable murals, “Celestial Symphony,” downtown.
“Seven years ago, I started sharing my art online and it just had a really good response from the community. People started asking me to do different jobs that led to mural jobs. It led to larger clients, and now it’s a full-time career.”

Where you can see her work

As mentioned above, her “Celestial Symphony” mural in Downtown Huntsville was her first public work, but her murals can be seen all over the Huntsville area, including:
- The Chandelier on Clinton
- Good Fortune at MidCity
- Inspirational utility boxes at Big Spring Park
- The World is Your Oyster at Sea Salt
- A logo at Honest Coffee’s new Madison location
- Michelob Ultras with personality at The Orion
- Rumble Boxing (Madison)
- Condado Tacos
- Paxton Place Apartments
- Plus lots of smaller-scale murals and logo paintings at local businesses
Her most recent project, at The Stella apartment complex, encompasses an entire block in Five Points. The process has taken nearly two years from conception and planning to putting the brush on the surface.

“This piece in particular is my favorite for sure, because they really just gave me so much creative freedom unlike I’ve ever had on a mural before. I started painting it last September, and then I took winter off because it got so incredibly cold. And now I’m in the final little touches.”

Andrews shares her work and her creative process on Instagram and is available for commissioned work.
“I love Huntsville. I’m so thankful that the community has been really welcoming and supportive of my career path.”
