More details on the northbound I-65 closing + detour
- Timing: The closure and detour will last as long as required for crews to complete the repairs, which depends on both weather and train traffic.
- Wide loads: Detour at Exit 310 in Cullman, take SR-157 northbound to SR-24 eastbound in Moulton + then SR-67 northbound to SR-20 eastbound in Decatur.
- Passenger + commercial traffic: A temporary signal at the junction of US-31 and the northbound off-ramp at Exit 318 will regulate traffic. From US-31:
- Passenger traffic can take Thompson Road in Hartselle to I-65.
- Commercial traffic must continue north on US-31 to SR-67 in Decatur + return to I-65 in Priceville.
- What about current US-31 closures?
- For the duration of the I-65 closing, ALDOT will temporarily reopen the northbound segment that has been closed for concrete slab replacement.
- US-31 southbound between Lacon Road/Old Highway 31 and I-65 will remain closed.
- Stay alert: Message boards + signs will be up for directions + state troopers will assist with traffic control.
