Isom’s Orchard new building to open in Spring 2025
Reading time: 3 minutes

The beloved Isom’s Orchard in Athens is getting an upgrade. If you’ve driven past their market site on Highway 72 in the past few months, you may have noticed something is missing (aka the whole building!). Keep reading to see what we know, plus get a look at the construction progress.
Isom’s Orchard: a community staple since 1974
The four-generations orchard shared the news with family photographs and memories.
Isom’s Orchard had a modest start in 1957 when founder E.K. Isom started selling peaches from his front yard, followed by the first fruit stand by Joe Isom. As Alabama weather tends to go, an F5 tornado destroyed his hand-built fruit stand in 1974. Dedicated to “the orchard life,” Joe Isom built the stand that has fed Athens for 50 years.
2025 marks a new accomplishment in the timeline of the business, but with a bittersweet goodbye.
“As our community grows, we need to as well. To better serve our customers, we will spend our winter building a more accessible farm stand and parking lot.
But don’t worry, Isom’s will still provide the same quality produce and service you are accustomed to when visiting our farm.

Isom’s announced back in December 2024 that changes were coming soon: a brand new and refurbished market building and parking lot! This upgrade follows the farm’s newest build, the tall gazebo pictured above.
Many took to the comments of their announcement to share sweet memories of the original location:
“My grandparents moved here in ’73, my parents in ’84… me in ’88. My dad loved Isom’s peaches and had to get some every season.
For his memory, I get the jellies so I can have some year around. Thank you for not selling and staying with all of us. Looking forward to the new building!!!!”

Others are bittersweet, but excited for the updates:
“It’s hard watching what has been such a part of our history change, but we know that it will still be the Isom’s Orchard that we know and love!”

New building to open Spring 2025

All we know now is that Isom’s Orchard is set to reopen sometime in Spring 2025 in time for strawberry season. Last year’s strawberry season kicked off in mid-April, so fingers crossed!
