L3Harris to finalize 7-year defense contract with Department of War + Lockheed Martin

L3Harris Technologies entered into an agreement this week with the Department of War and Lockheed Martin for a multi-year contract to quadruple propulsion production for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system.
The contract will span seven years and will be the largest THAAD propulsion award L3Harris has received to date, and the company’s Huntsville operations will be on the forefront of the agreement. The contract details—including financial elements to the contract— will be determined later this year.
What is the THAAD system?
THAAD can intercept threats both within and outside the Earth’s atmosphere, providing capability for defense against ballistic missile attacks.
According to L3Harris, THAAD is “a combat-proven system which has achieved a 100% success rate in intercept tests since production began.”
The company’s Huntsville facility manufactures THAAD’s solid rocket boost motors.
