Alabama A&M student rocks stage with Usher during 2 Birmingham performances

Jordan Todd, an Alabama A&M senior majoring in liberal arts, had the unique opportunity to dance onstage with Usher during two recent performances in Birmingham on July 28 and 29.
Todd utilized the Get Backlit program to earn this opportunity, which is an initiative designed to give local dancers the chance to show their skills onstage during Usher’s tour.
Being a Birmingham native as well, this moment meant even more to Jordan:
“Watching all of us come together, represent our city, and express ourselves through dance was something I’ll never forget. It was bigger than just performing. It was a moment of pride, community and seeing our local talent shine on such a major stage.”

Who is Jordan Todd + what’s next after Usher?
Todd is a member of the Chicago-founded dance team, House Arrest 2, which is known for its high-energy footwork and house music performances. Although he has been a member for the last three years, he doesn’t consider himself a pro:
“The funny thing is, I’m not a professionally trained dancer, I’m just someone who’s always had a natural love for performing and entertaining people.
Dance has helped me become more confident, disciplined, and open to new experiences. It’s taught me to trust myself, even in rooms where I may feel out of place or underestimated.”

Because of the Get Backlit program, the door is kept open for Jordan to pursue a future career in dance. The program is designed to give all dancers immense networking opportunities, which can very likely lead to future work.
