While there should never be a need to come up with an excuse to eat baklava, Thursday, Nov. 17 is National Baklava Day and Huntsville has some great spots to find some of the tastiest around.

Baklava recipes can vary, but they always include these essentials: phyllo (or filo) sheets, sweet syrup (typically honey mixed with juices and spices), nuts (often pistachios), and butter.

Big Papa Gyro not only has incredible baklava, but their Greek fare is some of the best I have ever had. For real.

Jamo’s Cafe

For some darn good Middle Eastern food and tasty baklava, try Jamo’s Cafe in Huntsville. The whole menu is fabulous!

Taziki’s Mediterranean Cafe

Whether you try the Madison location or Huntsville location of Taziki’s Mediterranean Cafe, you are guaranteed to eat some top-notch Mediterranean food.

If you have never been to Fresko Grille at Stovehouse you are missing out. This place has incredible food and is in a perfect location with a cool atmosphere.

Al Shish Palace

I can’t have a guide to any type of great Mediterranean food in the Huntsville area without including Al Shish Palace in Madison. I expected their baklava to be fabulous, and it did not disappoint!
