Get excited, Athens! The Texas-based restaurant that’s taken Alabama by storm is coming soon to Athens. Franchisee MWB and the Greater Limestone County Chamber of Commerce held a groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, February 21 to celebrate the new opening, coming this summer. Keep reading for all the details.
Welcome to Athens, Whataburger!
It seems like new Whataburgers are popping up everywhere in Alabama, and if you haven’t already, you’ve got to try it for yourself. As a Texas native, I may be a little biased, but I believe Whataburger is truly a step above its other fast food competitors.
MWB came together with the Greater Limestone County Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new location on February 21. They’re just as pumped as we are for the new location.
“This is the first of many new Whataburger restaurants MWB will open from the Tennessee Valley to Birmingham and surrounding areas, and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate with the Greater Limestone County Chamber of Commerce. We look forward to opening our doors this summer and continuing Whataburger’s legacy of serving great food and friendly service to our new friends in Athens.”John Reno, CEO, MWB
The new location will be on 1321 US Hwy 72 E and is set to open this summer.
New jobs and unbeatable burgers
Not only is Whataburger bringing their tasty menu to Athens, they’re sweetening the deal by creating over 120 jobs for the local community.
Currently, hiring is in progress for restaurant managers. Hiring for team leaders and team members will begin in the coming weeks, so be on the look out if you’re looking to score a new job. Whataburger’s hiring process involves a unique leadership curriculum that puts all employees on the path to career advancement.
Now for the part you’ve been waiting for—what’s on the menu? Well, the classics of course:
- Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit (affectionately called the hub chub)
- Dr. Pepper Shake
- Mushroom and Swiss Burger
- Patty Melt
- Honey BBQ Chicken Strip Sandwich
…and much more. Can’t wait to dig in? Head to the Whataburger website to find a location nearest to you.
Pro tip: For a limited time only, they have the Buffalo Ranch Chicken Strip sandwich available at all locations. You will not be disappointed, I dream about this sandwich.
Summer can’t come fast enough
Unfortunately we’ll have to wait for summer to come around for this location to open. Over the course of the next five years, MWB plans to open 30 new Whataburger restaurants—so there’s a lot more where this came from.
