Madison is about to get a new Costco location near Clift Farm. And in preparation for the new store, the city is planning to widen Wall Triana Highway.

This will be just the fourth Costco location in Alabama, and the second in Madison County. Here’s what we know:

A report from WAFF-48 says the new location will be located on Wall Triana Highway at Highway 72 near Clift Farm.

According to a report from the Madison County Commission, Wall Triana will be widened to five lanes from US Highway 72 to just north of McCrary Road.

A date or construction timeline for the Costco location has not been confirmed. However, the wholesale grocer has already reportedly started seeking bids on the project.

The existing Madison County Costco is located at 1205 Memorial Pkwy NW, Huntsville, AL 35801.

Road work near Clift Farm

While we do not have a definite date on when construction for the new Costco will commence, we do know that work has already begun on widening Wall Triana to five lanes.

The new roadway will include curb and gutter, shared bike lanes and sidewalks. As well, a signal is proposed at the intersection of Wall Triana Highway and Jack Clift Boulevard to control traffic from Clift Farm.

Regardless of what businesses are coming to that particular area, the need to widen the road is pressing. Heavy delays are experienced during the morning and peak hours at key intersections along Wall Triana Highway already. This congestion continues to worsen as Madison County experiences unprecedented growth.

“This portion of the road has been the location of several head-on collisions/serious traffic accidents due to the narrowness of the two-lane road and high traffic volume. By widening this roadway to five lanes, the safety for residents will be much improved, as well as easing the vehicular congestion.”
