New gym at Whitesburg Christian + more high-dollar building permits in North Alabama

Of the 18 new million-dollar-plus building permits issued this past week in Alabama, nine are for construction projects in North Alabama, including an addition at Whitesburg Christian Academy.

Here’s what we know about these new building projects:

Addition to Whitesburg Christian Academy

A $14.5 million building permit was issued to Johnson Kreis Construction for an addition to Whitesburg Christian Academy — for a new competition gym on its campus — a project that is already underway.

Here’s what we know about this new facility at Whitesburg Christian Academy:

The school broke ground on the project in August.
The entire project is estimated to cost $16 million.
The new facility will seat 1,000 students.
The construction is expected to be completed within 18 months.
