Off-campus housing for UAH + more new high-dollar building permits in Madison County

Several new million-dollar-plus construction projects were approved statewide this past week, with a majority of them building permits in Madison County.

One particular permit, for $41.7 million, is for a student housing apartment project adjacent to the UAH campus. Here’s what we know:

New apartments near UAH campus

The $41 million building permit is for a student-housing apartment complex adjacent to the UAH campus and near McThornmor Acres.

The proposed student apartment complex is on a 4.33-acre site on the south side of Holmes Avenue and west of Austin Drive that was home to Trinity Presbyterian Church. The complex is expected to house as many as 600 UAH students and slated to open in the summer of 2025.

The contractor for the project is Fite Building Corp. and the owner of the property is Capstone Development.
