NEW: Huntsville Botanical Garden gets $1.1 million
The Huntsville Botanical Garden (HBG) has received $1.1 million from a local couple’s estate, according to WHNT News 19.
The garden is no stranger to local endowments. Last May, the Wicks Family gave $2 million to HBG. As a result, the children’s garden was renamed “The Wicks Family Garden.”
About the local couple who left $1.1 million
The local couple who left the endowment, Roy and Sue Nichols, were married for 65 years according to their obituaries.
Roy founded Nichols Research Center in 1973 after he settled in Huntsville. He passed away in 2021 at the age of 83.
Sue, described as a devoted wife and mother, was heavily involved in community organizations–including the HBG. She passed away last October at the age of 84.
