Bids have opened for construction of the final 5-mile section of I-565 in Madison.

With almost 70,000 vehicles on this section of the highway each day, an expansion is definitely needed.

The Alabama Department of Transport (ALDOT) announced last week that the five-mile stretch of I-565 will run from County Line Road to Wall Triana, which will be widened on the inside median to 6 lanes (three in each direction).

Construction is planned to begin at the end of the month with the goal of finishing within two years.

“I’m proud to report that at the end of this month we are building the last five-mile section of Interstate 565. When it’s all said and done, all of I-565 will be six lanes across.”

Governor, Kay Ivey

Several contractors have placed bids ranging from $28-34 million. The winning bid has yet to be announced.

I-565 is getting a lot of attention this week, as ALDOT also announced the overnight closure this week for the section of the interstate around the Town Madison area while the supports for the bridge are installed.

Hopefully, these projects will alleviate traffic buildups and allow for less of the occasional traffic standstill.
