Most people have unused medications in the homes somewhere — in a medicine cabinet, in the glove compartment of your car, a cabinet in the hallway, etc — and the City of Madison wants them from you.

This is a great way to cut down on drug abuse and to improve safety in your homes. Here’s more:

Prescription Drug Take Back Day is Oct. 26

The Madison Police department is encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction.

Turn in your unused or expired medication for safe disposal Saturday Oct. 28 at Madison City Hall, 100 Hughes Rd, Madison, AL 35758 between 9AM and 11AM.

Items accepted include:

  • Unused prescriptions
  • Expired prescriptions
  • Over-the-counter medications
  • Liquid medication bottles

Items NOT accepted include:

  • llegal (Schedule 1) drugs
  • Needles, syringes, sharp containers
  • Aerosol cans or inhalers
  • Chemicals
  • Mercury-containing devices
