New signalized intersection to be built under Huntsville’s “Useless Overpass”

The City of Huntsville announced on August 13 a plan to fully signalize the access road intersection underneath Memorial Parkway, between Drake Avenue and Airport Road.
The area is commonly known as “Useless Overpass,” because it was built to cross a major road that was never constructed.
The intersection below will soon be equipped with traffic signals and turn lanes allowing for safer access to the developments around Joe Davis stadium from all directions.

When will work begin on the intersection?
The city has reached a contract agreement with Rogers Group, a family-owned company based out of Nashville.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2027 and will take approximately 90 days. Traffic traveling on the mainline of Memorial Parkway will not be affected, but there will be some lane closures for those using the nearby service road.
