Party tents, food trucks, balloon arches and music are common at farmers’ markets, craft fairs and other fun pop-ups—maybe not what you’d expect for a Huntsville bank location opening.
Yet that’s exactly how Fifth Third Bank does it, bringing a festival-like energy to every ribbon-cutting. Huntsville has now experienced that five times over since late 2025, with a sixth location coming this fall and a seventh early next year—all part of a statewide strategy that will soon include 15 Alabama locations.
Beyond the ribbon cuttings, we took a closer look to learn why the bank began its Alabama banking center expansion here in Huntsville. Read on to learn what we discovered + where to find the new locations.
Quick guide
How Fifth Third chose Huntsville

Fifth Third began its Southeast expansion strategy in 2017, first using its own data-driven market strength index to identify cities to enter, then pinpointing best-suited neighborhoods with an award-winning, proprietary geospatial heatmap that draws upon thousands of data points showing where its ideal customers actually go.
Several things about Huntsville stood out, including its growth trajectory, strong talent base and thriving economy. Bank leaders say the community’s response so far has reinforced all indicators:
“What stood out immediately was the level of curiosity and openness from both consumers and business clients who were eager to understand what we were bringing to the market. The positive response tells us that Huntsville was ready for a bank that brings a fresh perspective—one that combines national capabilities with a very local, relationship-driven approach.”

Branches built for how people bank today
Step inside a Fifth Third banking center, and you’ll immediately notice how it doesn’t look or feel like a traditional bank branch, starting with an open-concept design featuring a transaction bar instead of a traditional teller line.
Since many people do routine banking on their phones, Fifth Third has that covered with a mobile banking app that J.D. Power ranks No. 1 for satisfaction among regional banks.
The banking center design offers a more modern, approachable space where clients can seamlessly choose between digital banking and personalized, in-person service.
To the latter point, White emphasized that the people you’ll meet within those spaces are the greatest differentiators.
“Showing up differently is not just about the physical design; it’s about a mindset and a behavioral commitment from every team member. We lead with conversations, not transactions. We want every client to feel known, valued and supported.”

New-to-Huntsville bank, longtime leader

While new to Alabama, Fifth Third has been around since 1858. Headquartered in Cincinnati, it operates approximately 1,100 branches. For the fourth consecutive year, the bank earned a spot on the Forbes list of World’s Best Banks, based on an independent survey of more than 54,000 consumers across 34 countries.
“We are here for the long term, and we are here to be a true financial partner, building relationships, strengthening communities and bringing a different standard of banking to this market.”
