Huntsville ladies, we found a new leadership program that understands what it takes to help women move up in their careers in the Rocket City.
Along with helping women increase their salaries, Upward offers holistic coaching so they feel less overwhelmed in their personal lives, too. Read on for all the details.
The Upward Program

Momentum may be a newer face around Huntsville, but they’ve been changing careers for women in the state—in Birmingham and beyond—for over 20 years.

“The Upward experience is one of self-discovery, vision casting, action planning and access to a network of women leaders for early to mid-career women. In Huntsville, our industries in engineering, aerospace and defense skew heavily to male-dominated environments.
Plus, there are many female newcomers who are just getting settled in Huntsville. Upward provides the skills-based learning, personal insights, and support to help women thrive both personally and professionally, despite the challenges they face. We want our women to soar in the Rocket City!”
Amy Gandy, Huntsville Program Manager, Momentum
Leveling up careers for women
Since 2019, 295 women have graduated from Upward with their careers on the uptick. But don’t just take it from us—check out the experiences some of these women:
Tacita Thompson, Project Leader at Fast Slow Motion, (has been promoted x2):
“Momentum has built a network of amazing women that I can lean on and support, provided opportunities to participate in the mentorship program that has given me confidence and perspective, and connected me to a career at Fast Slow Motion which has been a blessing in my life.
Momentum also encouraged me to give back to the Community through leadership opportunities at Girl Spring, where I have been serving as VP of the Junior Board for the past two years. Momentum’s Upward program has changed the trajectory of my career, and I am forever grateful.”
Amber Anderson, Organizational Development Specialist, UAB
“As an organizational specialist, I work on a campus with 20,000 employees. I work primarily with faculty and staff, and I teach and learn and engage with them on how to build teams effectively. In today’s world, it’s so important that leaders learn how to lead versus manage. By leading, we have to foster relationships, communicate well, problem solve, and most importantly, build a team.”
Momentum’s Upward program by the numbers:
- $4,400,000: Total estimated salary increase from Upward graduates since 2019
- 100% of participants said they were satisfied or extremely satisfied with their participation in Upward.
- 87% of participants report Upward had a positive influence on their ability to achieve professional goals.
- 77% of participants report Upward improved the quality of their personal lives outside of work.
- $15k: The average reported salary increase among Birmingham Upward class 5 upon graduation.

Holistic focus—mental, professional, spiritual + more

Along with offering professional coaching and skills-based training that lead to career advancement, Upward also helps women thrive outside of work.
Although women enter the workforce at the same rate as men, only 40% make it to middle management, where most of them will stay. Many women experience feelings of overwhelm and burnout stemming from lack of mentorship, few female role models, and the ever-elusive work/life balance.
Upward provides holistic coaching in the mental, spiritual and relational intersections in life. Plus, after completing the program, graduates are connected to the 1,000+ Momentum alumnae, a valuable asset for networking and mentorship.
