Red Lobster to close only Huntsville location after 51 years

Red Lobster, the popular seafood restaurant with a presence across the world, has confirmed that it plans to close its only location in Huntsville on September 6.

Located on University Drive, this particular franchise has operated in Huntsville for over 50 years, originally opening in 1975.

The company filed for bankruptcy in 2024, which led to many locations being temporarily or permanently closed. The Huntsville location was one of the fortunate restaurants that only closed temporarily, eventually reopening on August 28, 2024.

Now, nearly two years later to the date, the restaurant will be closing its doors again — and with the shuttering of another location in Montgomery, there will be six Red Lobsters left operating in Alabama.
