Snow + freezing temps may be coming to Huntsville this week
Reading time: 2 minutes
Bundle up, Huntsville! Temps are dropping in North Alabama and we may even see some snow in the next couple of days. Read on for everything we know, plus a few tips for staying safe and warm.
Will we see the snow in Huntsville?
Starting tomorrow, December 28, it’s going to be much colder outside. According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, a mix of light rain and snow is possible through Friday night.
Earlier today, the WAAY 31 StormTracker Weather Team noted that warm ground temperatures will make it difficult for snow to stick to the ground, but light accumulations shouldn’t be ruled out, especially in the higher elevations of Northeast Alabama.
Stay safe as temperatures drop
To stay safe and warm during the icy weather, check out these tips:
- Cover + check pets’ paws when outside.
- Dress warmly with layers limiting skin exposure + limit time outside.
- Keep your gas tank over half full + notify family if you are traveling.
- Limit pets’ time outside + bring outdoor animals inside.
- Slow drip faucets, use caution with indoor heaters + check heating vents for ice buildup.
While any snow can cause dangerous travel conditions, the first snow of the season often causes accidents as you and other drivers adjust to driving in poor conditions. The National Weather Service suggests: slow down, don’t use cruise control and keep your distance from other vehicles.
