The U.S. Space & Rocket Center (USSRC) is world-famous, and with that level of notoriety, it’s no surprise that the USSRC regularly works with movie and TV producers on space-related projects.

A new movie called Space Cadet—which uses the USSCR as a backdrop—is coming out later this week. Read on to learn more:

Space Cadet

This Thursday (the 4th of July), if you sit down with the family to watch a new movie, you might see a familiar location.

The US Space & Rocket Center features in several scenes in the new Amazon Prime Original Space Cadet.

Starring Emma Roberts (American Horror Story, We’re the Millers) and Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy, Black Sails) the movie promises to be a lighthearted film reminiscent of the early 2000’s Mean Girls/Legally Blond-style comedies.

According to IMDB: “Rex, a Florida party girl, turns out to be the only hope for the NASA space program after a fluke puts her in training with other candidates who may have better resumés, but don’t have her smarts, heart, and moxie.”

Space Cadet releases on Thursday, July 4 on Amazon Prime.

The USSRC is no stranger to the screen. Some of their on-screen appearances include:

  • Space Camp
  • The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley
  • The Late Show with James Cordon

Space Camp and the USSRC have appeared in several movies and TV shows. You can find a full list of projects they’ve been in that we’ve put together here.

In the new movie Space Cadet, the US Space & Rocket Center appears to be a stand-in for the Johnson Space Center. You can see it in the trailer when Emma Roberts’ character Rex is walking past the large rocket at the 0:48 second mark.

You can even see the sign for G-Force in the background as she walks past the rocket which is located right in the middle of the campus between the Davidson Center and Main Museum.

The USSRC was also used for the astronaut training scenes, with their Milti-Axis-Trainers that Space Camp trainees experience being used by both Roberts and Hopper in several quick shots in the trailer.
