Space Command bringing new growth to Huntsville + beyond

Improvements for commuters
About 1,400 Space Command jobs will transition to Redstone Arsenal over the next five years, according to Mayor Battle. Some White House sources say that number may increase over time.
Huntsville has already invested heavily to ensure its readiness, including:
- Completed: Zierdt Road improvements; widening Research Park Boulevard
- Under construction: I-565 widening to I-65; Martin Road widening (Gate 7 to Huntsville International Airport)
- In design: Resolute Way (connecting I-565 to Gate 9/Redstone Gateway Park); Arsenal East Connector (linking I-565 to proposed Redstone Gate near Triana Blvd)
Growth in Athens
With growth in Huntsville comes new residents in surrounding cities, especially Athens. Check out how Athens has grown over the last several years, according to the Limestone County Economic Development Association:

- Since 2020: Population surge of 15,381 new residents (a 14.9% growth rate)

Bethany Shockney, President & CEO of the Limestone County Economic Development Association
Small town living 30 min from Redstone Arsenal

As a lifetime Athens resident, I can attest to the lively community and downtown district. Many are flocking to Athens for its small town charm, classic downtown events like “Fridays After Five” and more.
New commercial developments are popping up, too, including Buc-ee’s, TJ Maxx, Ulta, 7Brew and more. (Here’s to manifesting a Target soon!).

Convenient spot to live in Athens for commuters

Another reason I love living in Athens? It’s conveniently located to the interstate (and closer to Huntsville than you may think).
Gateway Village at Swan Creek is the place to rent if you’re apartment-hunting in Athens. Why? They’re located on the intersection of Highway 72 and I-65, placing it in the center of everything. Plus, they have a beautiful community and great amenities (more on that later).
With interstate access, you can expect a 30-35 minute commute to Redstone Arsenal while being just 10 minutes away from the historic downtown Athens.
