Take one of these guided hikes here in Huntsville this month
Reading time: 2 minutes
You may not think of winter as being a great time to be out in the woods, but it really is a spectacular time to go hiking. The landscapes — especially here in North Alabama — provide quite a view while you are getting in some good exercise.
And luckily, the Land Trust of North Alabama has a few guided hikes scheduled this month that you should try.
Wade Mountain Nature Preserve – Feb. 3
If you haven’t seen the view from Devil’s Racetrack at Wade Mountain Preserve, you must sign up for this hike. This is one of the best views in the state. The hike is around three miles and should take about two hours.
- When: Feb. 3, 2PM
- Where: 10130 Spragins Hollow Road NW, Huntsville, AL 35810
- More info
Blevins Gap Nature Preserve – Feb. 11
This walk is less than a mile, and will probably take well under an hour to complete. There is some climbing though, so it’s not that easy.
- When: Feb. 11, 2PM
- Where: 2275 Cecil Ashburn Dr SE, Huntsville, AL 35802
- More info
Harvest Square Nature Preserve – Feb. 18
While the exact route of the hike will be determined by the leader, participants will see nearly the entire preserve with the exception of part of Senators Trail. Much of this walk is along crushed limestone paths and recently-installed boardwalks.
- When: Feb. 18, 2PM
- Where: 111 Allyson Sadie Blvd, Harvest, AL 35749
- More info
Hike-A-Hound at Green Mountain Nature Preserve – Feb. 24
This hike is a partnership between the Land Trust and the Greater Huntsville Humane Society, which means you are encouraged to bring your dog. And, if you don’t have a dog and would like to adopt one, the GHHS will have adoptable pooches on site.
- When: Feb. 24, 1PM
- Where: 13800 South Shawdee Road, Huntsville, AL 35803
- More info
