The best bagel shop in Alabama is in Huntsville

Local Huntsville bakery Canadian Bakin was recently listed as Alabama’s best bagel shop by Tasting Tables.

Tasting Tables based their list on online reviews and customer input, and with their friendly staff and community-driven approach to business, it’s no wonder they were called the best in Alabama.

Inside Canadian Bakin, you’ll find a warm atmosphere that invites you to sit and have a bagel and a latte while you catch up with friends, read a book or watch some anime on their old black and white TV (you can see some Yu-Gi-Oh playing in the background above).

Slingin’ carbs

Canadian Bakin doesn’t shy away from the carbs, and in fact, embraces them wholeheartedly.

You’ll find a plethora of bagel options including plain, blueberry, everything, garlic, sesame, poppyseed, cinnamon raisin, chocolate chip and a specialty flavor that changes every week.

In addition to bagels, Canadian Bakin offers artisan breads and sandwiches, or sandos as they call them, as well as brioche, baguettes and pretzels. Their sourdough is so good it made our list of spots to get delicious and healthy sourdough bread.

You’ll find an emphasis on craft and quality in everything they serve, with delicious lattes using locally roasted coffees, homemade cream cheeses and some of the friendliest staff in Huntsville.

Bagel beginnings

Canadian Bakin started in 2017 when government contractor Matt Johnson started growing tired of the monotony of a desk job and wanted to make things with his hands rather than a computer.

Matt started selling his bagels and bread at local farmers’ markets and eventually grew his hobby into a business with the help of his then-friend-now-wife Danniella.
