The Madison City Council this month approved am $8 million expansion tot Toyota Field, complying with Major League Baseball’s latest requirements for minor league stadiums.
The $8 million project is slightly more than the bare minimum for compliance, as the council balked at a $21.3 million plan that would have added more features and upgrades to the stadium.
What’s new at Toyota Field

The renovations come after a mandate by the MLB that requires all minor league teams to have facilities for male and female coaches and umpires. All but two of the current 120 minor league stadiums across the country had to make renovations by the end of the 2025 season, including Toyota Field.
Having a financing plan in place meets the deadline requirement set my MLB.
Failure to comply with these guidelines could have prompted MLB to move the Trash Pandas to another city.
The council was faced with three options for renovation plans, ranging in cost from $6.8 million to $21.3 million:
- The $6.8 million plan would have met the bare minimum for MLB compliance, adding the facilities for male and female coaches and umpires.
- The $8 million plan includes a building in left field that would be used as the visiting team clubhouse, plus one VIP space.
- A $21.3 million plan would have added a four-story addition with luxury suites and other amenities.
The $8 million option, which was approved by a 5-2 vote, is scheduled for completion by June of next year.
