Last Trash Pandas homestand + more events in Huntsville this weekend
It’s time for the weekend (close enough) folks, and the next few days in Huntsville offer plenty of stuff to get into. Whether you want to take in a Trash Pandas game, some college football, some live music or a cool festival or market, you’re in luck.

Live music in the Rocket City
Huntsville Music Month continues this weekend, with a pretty cool slate of live music throughout the city:
- 10th Annual Women in Jazz Festival: Sept. 8-9, Bob Harrison Center, Fri. 6PM, Sat. 11AM. Enjoy two days of amazing jazz music performed by some of the top women in the genre.
- Jim Parker’s Songwriters Series: Sept. 8, VBC Playhouse, 7PM. Hear from the writers behind the songs at Jim Parker’s Songwriters Series – this week features Jeff Dayton, Jerry Salley, Delaney Faulds and more.
- Grasstronauts: Sept. 9, Stovehouse, 7PM. Who doesn’t love a good bluegrass show? This band is fantastic and so entertaining.
- Majesty: Sept. 9, Jeff & Blues, 9PM. Catch this all-female DJ experience happening until 2AM at Jeff & Blues.
- Jazz in the Park: Sept. 10, Big Spring Park, 5PM-9PM. This week’s Jazz in the Park features Noelette Leader-Hutton, Chandra Currelley and Brian Simpson.
Sports + fitness events
College football is replacing baseball as the season du jour in these parts, but the Rocket City Trash Pandas are in town for their final homestand of the season, in case you didn’t know.
If baseball isn’t your thing, there’s still plenty of sports happening in and around Huntsville this weekend:
- Trash Pandas vs. Blue Wahoos: Sept. 8-10, Toyota Field,Fri.-Sat. 6:30PM Sun. 2:30PM. Cheer on the Trash Pandas for their final homestand of the 2023 season.
- Citywide Boot Camp: Sept. 9, Hays Farm, 9AM. This weekend is the first in the monthly series of free fitness classes brought to you by the Huntsville Parks and Recreation Department.
- Blevins Gap Guided Hike: Sept. 9, Blevins Gap Nature Preserve, 9AM. Take a guided hike through the beautiful and scenic Blevins Gap Preserve.
- Alabama A&M vs Lane: Sept. 9, Louis Crews Stadium, 6PM. The Bulldogs are at home this weekend, so come down and catch some college football live and in person.
- Huntsville City FC vs. Atlanta United II: Sept. 10, Joe Davis Stadium, 6PM. Soccer anyone? Your HCFC is home at The Joe to take on Atlanta.

between some great stand-up comedy to a cool dog party, check out these events in the Rocket City this weekend:
- Fall Block Party: Sept. 9, Huntsville Animal Services, 10AM-2PM. This is a community event, which celebrates lovable “block-headed” breeds. Show up to meet the pets, but stick around for games, local vendors like Kona Ice and free adoptions all day long.
- Oktober ZrFest: Sept. 9, BeeZr, 10AM-10PM. Enjoy some delicious German beer, watch some football and have a great time at BeeZr downtown.
- Providence Farmers Market: Sept. 9, Village of Providence, 9AM-2PM. Browse fresh produce, arts and crafts, local vendors and more in the beautiful Village of Providence.
- Huntsville High School Band’s Car Show: Sept. 9, Milton Frank Stadium, 4PM. Check out the 1st annual car show raising funds for the Huntsville High School band. The event will feature a performance by the band as well.
- Jeff Allen’s “Are We There Yet?” Tour: Sept. 10, Stand Up Live, 6PM. Based on Jeff’s book, Are We There Yet? which tears down all walls and shows Jeff’s journey from very dark times, to recovery, restoration, and ultimately redemption.
