A student-led team from the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) recently competed in an international rover competition held in Utah. Keep reading for more details on the competition and where UAH was ranked.
How UAH’s rover fared
The University Rover Challenge (URC) is held annually in Hanksville, Utah, because of its similarity to Mars. The URC Invited 100 student-led teams to compete. UAH’s team ASTRA represented the university, and consisted of students from the College of Engineering and the College of Science.
ASTRA placed 8th internationally and 5th nationally. The competition consisted of each team scientifically testing their rover through equipment servicing, extreme retrieval and autonomous mission activities.
The competition, founded in 2006, draws in the most talented and promising students in the space exploration industry.
ASTRA put their unit through all of the events and included written reports and video demonstrations to be reviewed by the URC judges.
Their ranking is a high honor considering the amount of teams that competed in this event, and definitely puts more accolades and attention to UAH’s brand.
