UNA secures $8.6M for new campus safety upgrades

The University of North Alabama received some good news this month via much-needed federal funding that the university will use for campus infrastructure improvements and safety upgrades.

What will this $8.6 million fund at UNA?
The federal funding comes in two separate grants of $6.6 million and $2 million. Both will be used, in part, for the Pine Street corridor project, which aims to increase pedestrian and vehicle safety, improve connectivity across campus and support continued growth of the university.
The majority of the funding—$5.6 million—is dedicated to Pine Street safety enhancements, while the remaining $1 million is for the UNA Department of Engineering and Industrial Professions.
The investment in UNA’s Department of Engineering and Industrial Professions is designed to enhance educational resources, equipment, and workforce development efforts. As well, the $1 million will help ensure students receive the hands-on training and practical experience needed to fill jobs in Alabama’s growing industrial and engineering sectors.
The other $2 million will also go toward the Pine Street project. The Alabama Department of Transportation will serve as the grant recipient and oversee the project’s implementation.
