VBC upgrades among new high-dollar building permits in North Alabama

Of the 18 new building permits issued in Alabama this past week for construction projects exceeding $1 million, 10 are for projects happening here in North Alabama.
The priciest of these permits is for upgrades to the Von Braun Center. Here’s what we know:
Von Braun Center upgrades
The priciest of this week’s building permits is a $15 million upgrade project at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville. Turner Construction Corp. is the lead contractor for this project, which includes:
- Upgrades to the Mark C. Smith Concert Hall, Playhouse and the Saturn Ballroom
- Building an extension to the back of the concert hall
- Enlarging the VBC kitchen
This project is expected to take a year to complete.
