Many people choose to volunteer in Huntsville over the holiday season by volunteering to serve or deliver food to others, whether through need-based programs and soup kitchens or large-scale community events.

We’ve noted a handful of great opportunities to serve meals and the community:

Downtown Rescue Mission

Among its many programs and services for people of all ages, the Downtown Rescue Mission serves daily meals of breakfast, lunch and dinner to anyone who is hungry.

Thanksgiving week is an exceptionally busy time at the mission, starting Sunday, Nov. 22 with turkey box packing and distributing the boxes over Monday and Tuesday. Thanksgiving banquet meal services are on Wednesday and Thursday. Volunteer help is needed for all of these activities; check out the link below to sign up for specific tasks and shifts.

The Rose of Sharon Soup Kitchen

The Rose of Sharon Soup Kitchen provides daily meals for breakfast and lunch four days a week, alongside access to sustaining services and other essentials, including food boxes, hygiene kits and food for pets.

Huntsville Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels Huntsville is another excellent program that ensures people in our community have nutritious food to eat. The service provides meals to over 235 homebound people monthly and always welcomes help. You can volunteer individually or gather friends to adopt one of Huntsville Meals on Wheels’ 22 meal-delivery routes.

The event brings together people from all parts of the city and walks of life to enjoy time together, celebrate our community and make new friends and business connections.
