The Land Trust of North Alabama recently acquired a significant tract of property, purchased from the Berkebile family, to expand Wade Mountain Nature Preserve by more than two acres.

This 1,010-acre preserve located in North Huntsville offers approximately 13 miles of trails for hiking, biking or horseback riding.

Here’s what to know:

Over the past several years, the Land Trust has focused on acquiring key properties to build stronger connections across the preserve. These connections not only support local ecosystems but also make way for future recreation opportunities, including potential trail expansions and new access points.

This addition falls within the Land Trust’s identified priority area for conservation on Wade Mountain and directly connects to the Davis tracts acquired in 2022.

The property features upland hardwood forest and plays a valuable role in expanding the preserve’s protected landscape. By securing this tract, the Land Trust strengthens the continuity of the surrounding ecosystem and helps preserve the natural character of the mountain.

“Wade Mountain continues to be a favorite destination for outdoor exploration in North Huntsville. With each addition, we take another step toward ensuring this special place remains protected and accessible for generations to come.”
