What to know about the new dog park in Decatur
Reading time: 3 minutes

Many dog parents have been enjoying the new dog park in Decatur after its much-anticipated opening the first week of July.
Decatur’s previous dog park, which also comprised separate, fenced areas for large and small dogs, closed earlier this year as part of the $52.5-million overhaul to Wilson Morgan Park, which includes a new recreation center. With the dog park’s closure in January, frequent users of the park urged the city to provide at least a temporary solution until it reaches a final plan for replacing the park at Wilson Morgan.

Repurposed fencing + two play spaces

According to social media updates from the city’s parks and recreation department over the past several months, the city salvaged the majority of fencing from the Wilson Morgan Park, which opened in 2019. The city used what they could to construct the large and small dog spaces at Wolverine Park while experiencing several weather delays this spring and early summer.

BYO water for now

Within the last week or two at Wolverine Dog Park, the city also installed sun shades and has plans to add a water station soon.
💦 COOL TIP: (Not a hot tip, because it’s hot enough) BYO water for your pups—and yourself.
