Monday is MLK day, and there are several events going on in Huntsville to celebrate the life and impact of Martin Luther King Jr.

That said, temperatures are expected to drop below freezing and snow is possible. Keep in mind these planned closures for MLK day and make sure to watch for unexpected business closings due to weather.

Federal offices (courthouses, United States Post Offices, Social Security Offices, etc.) will be closed for MLK Day. These banks, universities and other businesses are also closed:

  • All banks in the Huntsville area
  • Burritt on the Mountain
  • Calhoun Community College
  • Drake State
  • Early Works Museum
  • Huntsville and Madison City offices
  • Huntsville, Madison city and county garbage pickup
  • Huntsville City Schools
  • Huntsville Depot
  • Huntsville Museum of Art
  • Huntsville Utilities
  • Huntsville-Madison County Public Libraries
  • Madison City Schools
  • Madison County Schools
  • Madison County offices and courts
  • Redstone Arsenal
  • University of Alabama in Huntsville

What’s open for MLK Day 2024?

Barring any changes due to winter weather, most restaurants and retail stores will operate under regular business hours Monday. Here are some that will be open:

  • ALDI
  • CVS pharmacies
  • FedEx (FedEx Express and FedEx Group Economy will be operating on a modified service schedule)
  • Huntsville Botanical Garden
  • Huntsville/Madison County Visitors Center
  • Publix
  • Target
  • UPS
  • U.S. Space & Rocket Center (admission is free for educators with ID Jan. 13-15)
  • Walgreens
  • Walmart

The next federal holiday this year is President’s Day on Mon., Feb. 19.
