Work underway on 2 new major road projects in Madison
Reading time: 2 minutes

Those of you driving through Madison over the next few months will notice some road closures and delays here and there due to a couple of major road projects currently underway.
The new roundabout project at the intersection of Huntsville-Brownsferry and Burgreen, and the Mill Street repair project will affect traffic through the summer. Here’s more:
Mill Road project

A delay in the Mill Road stabilization project will have drivers detoured a little longer than originally planned.
The City of Madison is continuing important work on Mill Road to stabilize and reinforce the roadway from erosion near the stream.
During construction, contractors discovered the water main was too shallow on the west end, and poor soil conditions were found on the east end.
At the beginning of April, Mill Road closed between Balch Rd and Mill Park Lane. On May 22, Mill Road will close from Balch Rd east to the bridge crossing. Detour routes remain in effect.
This project will be completed by August 1, according to City officials. This would mean the project would finish before Madison City Schools start on April 4.
New roundabout in Madison

This week, the City of Madison was scheduled to begin construction on a new roundabout at the intersection of Huntsville-Brownsferry and Burgreen Road.
This project will require a full closure of the intersection. To help inform drivers, the Madison Police Department has already placed message boards in the area, and contractors are installing additional signage this week.
Here’s what to know:
- During the closure, drivers coming from the west are encouraged to use Holliday Drive to access Highway 72
- Those approaching from the south can detour via Hardiman Road to Burgreen, then Powell, and Bowers Road.
- The intersection is expected to reopen by August 1.
- Commuters are encouraged to plan alternate routes in advance.
