Athens has received plenty of positive recognition in recent years, and with good reason. One of Alabama’s fastest-growing cities has all the charm of a quaint Alabama town with plenty of growth opportunity.

Well, you can now add another accolade to the roster, as WorldAtlas has included Athens on its Most Charming Town Squares in Alabama list.

Athens has charmed WorldAtlas

While WorldAtlas did not have a specific criteria for which Alabama communities it included on its list, the publication did say the town squares that made the list all include “friendly locals, cultural attractions and a diverse mix of vintage architecture that adds sophistication to match the Southern hospitality.”

Athens’ town square made the list based in ppart because it is “a way to enjoy a bygone era, reminiscent of a mid-20th-century small village.”

“The district is a way to enjoy a bygone era, reminiscent of a mid-20th-century small village. Part of that charm is seeing the toy train winding through a window display at the hardware store while enjoying an ice cream. Athens has a lot to offer, but it may be most notable for its throwback ambiance.”
