The weekend is almost here, folks, and looking at what’s happening in Huntsville this weekend, the next few days are full of cool stuff to do in and around the Rocket City.

The whole weekend is full of live music, sporting events, festivals and shows. We already told y’all about the Big Spring Jingle happening this weekend, but here are some more events happening in Huntsville this weekend:
Live music
As is usually the case in and around the Rocket City, there is plenty of live music to check out in Huntsville this weekend, in a variety of genres and venues:
- Huntsville Chamber Music Society: Dec. 8, Tangled String Studios at Lowe Mill, 7PM. Catch a marvelous night of chamber music from the Huntsvile CMS.
- Rocket City Jazz Orchestra: Dec. 9, Downtown Huntsville Library, 6:30PM. Rocket City Jazz Orchestra returns for the twelfth time to spend a warm holiday evening at the library with a mix of new and classic Christmas songs.
- Cheryl Llewellyn: Dec. 9, Stovehouse, 6PM. Don’t miss this local singer, songwriter and guitarist playing an eclectic mix of blues, rock, classic rock, alternative, indie, pop, R&B and her own originals.
- John Denver Christmas: Dec. 9, Mars Music Hall, 7PM. Rocky Mountain High Experience presents “A John Denver Christmas,” starring Rick Schuler, America’s Top John Denver Tribute artist.
- Ann Wilson: Dec. 10, Von Braun Center, 7PM. The amazing vocalist for Heart, Ann Wilson, brings her solo tour to Huntsville.
Festivals, shows + markets
There are some fantastic events happening all over town in Huntsville this weekend, from ballet to live musical theater to a pretty cool music and arts festival. Check out these events:
- Ark Pet Spa Grand Opening: Dec. 8, Ark Pet Spa (Bob Wallace Ave), 4:30PM-6PM. Get free pet photos with Santa Paws and tour the new pet Spa and Hotel in Huntsville.
- The Nutcracker: Dec. 8-10, Mark C. Smith Concert Hall, Fri. 7:30PM, Sat. 2PM & 7:30PM, Sun., 1PM. Huntsville Ballet is joined by the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra for its annual performance of the beloved holiday classic ballet, The Nutcracker.
- Christkindlmarket: Dec. 8-10, Orion Amphitheater, Fri. 5PM-8PM, Sat. 12PM-8PM, Sun. 12PM-5PM. The Christkindlmarket will be the ideal place to find the perfect gift for the holidays. In addition to the artist market, you can enjoy holiday music from local performers and the Orion will feature a delightful blend of holiday food and drinks to enjoy.
- Chill Fest: Dec. 9, Campus 805, 12PM-9PM. This new music and arts festival includes incredible live music, an artist market to finish up your Christmas shopping, some delicious cuisine from the food trucks and craft beer from the breweries.
- Huntsville Reptile Expo: Dec. 9, Von Braun Center East Hall, 10AM: Reptile lovers cannot miss this event! Vendors, experts and more will be on hand at the VBC.
Sports + fitness
Whether you want to watch some hockey or some college basketball — or if you want to participate in a 5k this weekend, there are events to satisfy your sports urge in and around Huntsville this weekend:
- Frosty Freeze 5K: Dec. 9, Downtown Decatur, 8AM. This 5K and 1-mile fun run in Decatur is a fundraiser for the Austin High School cross country team.
- Huntsville Havoc vs Birmingham Bulls: Dec. 9, Propst Arena, 7PM. It’s “Batman Night” at Propst Arena as the Havoc host in-state rivals the Birmingham Bulls.
- North Alabama War Dawgs: Dec. 9, James Clemens High School, 7PM. The North Alabama War Dawgs, Huntsville pro hoops squad, hosts South Atlanta Saturday night.
- TAC/TVR Autocross Event: Dec. 9, Milton Frank Stadium, 9:30AM. If you enjoy auto racing, check out the Twickenham Auto Club and Tennessee Valley Region SCCA Joint Autocross Championship Series.
- Alabama A&M vs. South Carolina State: Dec. 10. AAMU Event Center, 2PM. Cheer on the Lady Bulldogs as they take on South Carolina State.
