New report shows $2.4 billion spent by 4 million tourists in Madison County last year

The state of Alabama broke multiple tourism records in 2025, as the Yellowhammer State welcomed nearly 30 million tourists to the state last year, bringing in $25.9 billion.
Madison County was a big contributor to those totals, generating $2.4 billion.

Tourism in North Alabama remains strong

The Alabama Tourism Department reported the state enjoyed a $1 billion increase in tourism dollars from 2024 and a $12 million increase since 2015.
Some tidbits from the 2025 Alabama Tourism Report:
- As expected, Alabama beaches were leading the way but 20 total counties saw at least a 10% increase in travel-related earnings.
- Alabama has seen a massive increase in tourism numbers over the last two decades, reporting a 264% spending increase since 2003.
- The state reported nearly $1.5 billion in travel-related tax revenue in 2025.
- The Gulf Coast region alone reported over $10 billion in travel-related earnings, a 5% increase from 2024.
- 12 counties reported at least $100 million in travel-related earnings.
According to the report, Baldwin, Jefferson, Madison, Mobile and Montgomery led the way for tourism in Alabama last year, accounting for 72.5 percent of the total number of travelers to the state.
The U.S. Space & Rocket Center drew more than 600,000 visitors last year, serving as the most popular attraction in Madison County.
