Christmas is just around the corner, and there’s no better place to get you in the spirit than the Magic City. Plenty of festive events like the Glow Wild at the Birmingham Zoo are happening all month. If you need help planning your trip, we’ve got you covered.

We’ve included must-see holiday events for the next three weekends in Birmingham, where to stay and extra fun to check out while you’re in town!

December 6-8

Art After 5, ‘Die Hard’ Edition

Watch as the Birmingham Museum of Art transforms into an 80s Christmas party with cocktails, music and action-packed games. This month’s “Art After 5” pays homage to the beloved film “Die Hard.”

Don’t miss the fun on December 6 from 5PM-9PM.

  • Where to stay: Check out the unique architecture of the Elyton Hotel.
  • Other things to do in the area: Grab dinner at Helen and finish the night with a drink at Moon Shine, the Elyton’s rooftop bar.

December 13-15

‘The Nutcracker’

George Balanchine’s “The Nutcracker” is back in Birmingham this year! The classic Christmas performance has been a staple in the Magic City for two decades.

We recommend seeing this dazzling show Friday, December 13-Sunday, December 15 since the Alabama Symphony Orchestra will accompany the show that weekend.

  • Where: BJCC Concert Hall
  • Cost: $48-$68
  • Where to stay: The beautiful Sheraton Birmingham Hotel is a five-minute walk from the concert hall.
  • Other things to do in the area: Don’t leave without exploring the downtown bar scene during the Ugly Sweater Bar Crawl on Saturday, Dec. 14.

December 20-22

Alabama Theatre Holiday Film Series

One of Alabama’s most beautiful venues is showcasing Christmas classics throughout December as part of its “Holiday Film Series.” We recommend attending the weekend of Friday, December 20-Sunday, December 22.

Don’t miss classic Christmas movies “Home Alone,” “A Christmas Story,” “Elf,” “White Christmas Sing-Along” and “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.”

  • Where: Alabama Theatre
  • Cost: $15
  • Where to stay: After enjoying a movie at a historic theatre, why not end the night at a historic hotel like the Redmont Hotel?
  • Other things to do in the area: Grab a coffee at 2101 Cafe (located inside Redmont) and eat dinner at The Essential.
