$5.2M worth of road resurfacing projects planned for Decatur

The Alabama Department of Transportation just announced three road resurfacing projects planned for Decatur.
Timelines vary, with one having an anticipated start date of September 15, while the other two are less specific. In total, the projects are worth $5.2M.
Road work almost always means lane closures, and yeah — this is no exception. However, the contractors for each project will conduct most operations requiring a lane closure between 6PM and 6AM, Sunday through Thursday, which will reduce traffic impact.

Three road resurfacing projects in Decatur
US-31 near the Tennessee River
The first project planned to start — and by far the largest — is worth an impressive $2.9M. The contractor, Rogers Group, will be milling and resurfacing four miles of US-31, from south of the Tennessee River to Thomas Hammons Road, which sits north of Decatur.
The project also includes guardrail improvements, bridge rail retrofits and striping on the William J. Hudson “Steamboat Bill” bridges, with work anticipated to begin on the evening of September 15.
🚧⚠️ This project has a notable exception regarding lane closures: beginning on Friday, September 18, through Monday, September 21, there will be a round-the-clock southbound lane closure as Rogers Group works on the US-31 causeway.
SR-67/Point Mallard Parkway
The second project is worth $1.3M and will see 3.4 miles of SR-67, from Indian Hills Road to US-31, resurfaced. Grayson Carter and Son was chosen as the contractor.
In addition to the resurfacing, centerline scoring (little grooves in the road) will be added to improve safety in undivided four-lane sections of the highway. ALDOT anticipates the project to start in late September.
SR-67/Beltline Road
The third project is also being completed by Rogers Group, and is worth $1M. It will see 1.4 miles of SR-67, from the SR-24 interchange to SR-20, resurfaced.
As of now, the project has no definitive timeline and is on hold until Norfolk Southern completes planned repairs to a rail crossing.
