Huntsville, with its dominant industries being defense and aerospace, may look like a male-dominated workplace. However, the truth is that many women are thriving in leadership roles in the Rocket City.
Read on to learn about five unique ways to level up your leadership—no matter what season of life you’re in.
What is Momentum?
For 20 years, Momentum has been helping women in Alabama gain leadership skills and opportunities through workshops, holistic programs, mentorship and networking.
1. For the established professionals: The Executive Leadership Program

If you’ve been in a leadership position for years, you’ve likely found out that it can be lonely (and difficult) at the top. That’s where Momentum’s Executive Leadership Program comes in, bringing you world-class leadership experts, a massive network of 1,000+ other women and a holistic approach to personal and professional growth.
The Executive Leadership Program consists of nine months of transformational training, including a 360 assessment, 2-day opening retreat, monthly full-day sessions with leadership experts, executive coaching and co-mentoring groups. Each cohort has 20-35 women of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
According to Momentum, this program is ideal for you if you:
- Hold 10+ years of high-level professional or civic experience in your career and community
- Possess significant management experience
- Demonstrate leadership in high-level projects or initiatives
- Have a strong commitment to personal and professional growth
Heads up: Applications are due April 30th, and the program begins in September. Get more information.
2. For the early-mid career ladies: Upward Program

Perhaps you’re not in executive leadership but are on your way there. In that case, the Upward Program is the perfect fit.
According to Momentum, although more women have a college education than men, only 40% make it to middle management and only 14% advance to senior leadership.
If you have big career goals but are feeling overwhelmed—or maybe even overworked—the Upward Program can help you create a strategic plan to get there and introduce you to a network of women in your shoes, as well as experienced female mentors.
Momentum’s Upward Program is for professional women with 3-15 years of experience. Sessions are half-days, and the cohort meets monthly from February to October. Applications will be open in the summer of 2025 for the class beginning in February 2026.

Momentum offers free mentor matching services to anyone in the Huntsville community. Through their extensive network of Executive Leadership and Upward Program graduates and beyond, they can find the ideal match for you—no matter if you’re in healthcare, manufacturing, defense or any other industry.

BONUS + fun fact: Bobby Bradley recently honored by Momentum

If you’ve been around Huntsville long enough, there’s a good chance you’ve heard Bobby Bradley’s name. Along with founding Village of Promise, Bobby also serves on the board for the U.S. Space & Rocket Center, Madison County Chamber of Commerce, the Huntsville Land Trust and more.
Momentum recently honored her at their annual conference this year (March 2025).
Make the date for Momentum’s next annual Leadership Conference on March 3 at the BJCC in Birmingham.
