Is your 2023 resolution to learn a new skill? Whether it’s improv comedy or sushi-making, talented Huntsvillians are hosting classes all season long that’ll help you uncover your hidden talents.
1. Improv
Take an improv class with Shenanigans Comedy Theatre to sharpen your public speaking and communications skills—and laugh a little, too.

2. Calligraphy
Sip and Script offers regular calligraphy classes all over Northeast Alabama, from Athens to Albertville and everywhere in between. You’re sure to find a class near you.

3. Terrariums
Huntsville Botanical Garden is hosting two terrarium classes this month to help you bring a bit of nature inside—one designed for adults, and the other with kids in mind.

4. Thai cooking + sushi making
Phuket Thai Restaurant in Providence has two classes that’ll teach you to cook great Thai food coming soon: a traditional Thai food class, and a sushi-making class. Yum.

5. Cigar Box Guitars

6. Oil painting
Local artist Stephanie Weaver’s oil painting classes are unique because you can join in-person or over Zoom.

7. Pottery
Designbyhart has pottery classes for everyone, from kids to semi-pro potters. Sign up quickly, though, because their classes fill up fast.

8. Hand embroidery
Studio House in Owens Cross Roads offers a variety of classes. I’ve got my eye on this hand embroidery course—it just so happens to be one of the skills I’m trying to learn in 2023.

9. Pasta making
Rafael’s Table in Lowe Mill is the go-to spot for upscale ingredients, but did you know that you can learn to make restaurant-quality food there, too? The pasta-making class sounds like a perfect date night activity (and Valentine’s Day is just over a month away).
