Alabama A&M’s men’s head basketball coach Otis Hughley is tuning up for the Summer Olympics, but not as the Bulldogs coach, but as the head coach for the Senegal Women’s National Team.
Hughley was tapped to lead the Sengal Women’s National team into international play leading up to the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
Hughley to lead Senegal Women’s National Team
The announcement of Hughley’s appointment to the Senegal WNT was made last week. And while it speaks volumes about his coaching prowess, it also shouldn’t surprise many who know his background.
Hughley — who has worked with the Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors as an assistant coach — is no stranger to the international stage on both the men and women’s side, having served more than a decade with the NBA’s China Program, and in 2017 he was named the head coach of the Nigerian Women’s National Team.
“This is an outstanding honor and I am absolutely excited to be selected to take over as the women’s national team head coach,” Hughley said. “This position will not interfere with the duties I have at Alabama A&M University. In fact, this will be helpful as we expand our brand globally.”
