Cinco de Mayo in the Rocket City—5 ways to celebrate

Hey Huntsville, get ready for Cinco de Mayo this Friday! This is the day that recognizes when the Mexican army claimed victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War on May 5, 1862. And it has become a popular celebration here in the States!
Here are five events around town celebrating Cinco de Mayo 2023:
1. Cinco de Mayo Block Party Downtown
Head downtown, grab a purple cup margarita, stroll through the vendors, listen to some music and enjoy this celebration downtown all day long Friday!

2. Cinco de Mayo celebration at El Omeca
Come out to El Omeca Mexican Cantina to celebrate with drink specials (some of the best margaritas in town) great food and the sounds of the Rocket City Latin Band!

3. Cinco de Mayo ‘90s party
It still kind of baffles me — as someone who was in high school and college in the 90s — that there are “90s parties” going on these days, but I do love celebrating the grunge decade, and this Friday is going to have a good one at Furniture Factory downtown. Dance and sing along to all of your favorite songs from the coolest decade ever!

4. Celebration at The Grid
Come celebrate Cinco De Mayo with The Grid in Hampton Cove! They will have a bounce house, along with food specials, shave ice and more.
