One concern heard often from Huntsville residents is the need for more — and repaired — sidewalks throughout the city. Well, the 2025 budget for the City of Huntsville includes funds to address that issue.
Here’s what we know:
New sidewalks in Huntsville
The City’s budget for the 2025 fiscal year bolsters funding for more sidewalk construction, a response to a popular neighborhood enhancement residents frequently request.
Plans call for 15 projects totaling 3.2 miles of new sidewalk throughout the city. The budget increases funding by 12.5 percent for this construction.
“Providing more money for sidewalk construction is something we’re excited to include in this budget. Sidewalks bond our neighborhoods and communities, and to build 15 new sidewalks further promotes Huntsville as a desirable place to live and raise a family.”
Mayor Tommy Battle
According to city officials, the sidewalk list to be included with this year’s budget will be released in the coming weeks. Evaluations for each consists of reviewing existing site conditions, utility conflicts, right-of-way constraints and cost estimates.
