It’s been cold here in Huntsville, but it could be (and has been) colder

So far, 2025 has started off on a really chilly note, with a snow storm that brought up to seven inches of snow to the Rocket City, and a week where temperatures dipped into the single digits.
And while this week has been brutally cold here in Huntsville, you may be surprised to know that we have had much colder days here in the Rocket City.
Where this week’s temps compare to the Huntsville’s coldest days
While we can say without a doubt that January has been cold here in Huntsville so far, temperatures have remained above 0 degrees. The Rocket City has actually seen temperatures dip below 0 degrees on numerous occasions in the past.
This is a list of the 20 lowest temperatures ever recorded in Huntsville history, based on data from the NOAA.

Weather sources in Huntsville say the low temperatures this week did reach as low as 9 degrees at one point, but that would not even rank among the 50 coldest days in Huntsville history.
