Live music
There’s plenty of live music to enjoy this weekend in and around Huntsville, including a few music festivals happening around town:
- Throttle Fest: Oct. 13-14, Rocket Republic, 5PM. Bands include Them Dirty Roses, Conrad Moore, Jive Mother Mary and more.
- Beasley Brothers: Oct. 13, Stovehouse, 7PM. Catch this Nashville-based country/rock duo for a free show at Stovehouse.
- Bluegrass & BBQ Festival: Oct. 14, Southside Park, 2PM-8PM. Join South Huntsville Main and Commissioner Phil Riddick for an afternoon full of lively Bluegrass music at Southside Park on Chaney Thompson Road.
- Gaither Vocal Band: Oct. 14, Mark C. Smith Concert Hall, 6PM. Known for their unprecedented, award-winning harmonies, the legendary Gaither Vocal Band bring to life their unique renditions of some of the most popular gospel songs.
- Paul Cauthen: Oct. 14, Mars Music Hall, 7PM. This Texas-based songwriter puts on a great live show, so catch him at the Mars Music Hall this weekend.
Festivals, shows + markets
You cannot mention weekend events in the Huntsville area without focusing on the cool festivals and markets we have here each weekend. This weekend is no exception:
- DL Hughley: Oct. 13-15, Stand Up Live, Fri. 7PM, 9PM, Sat. 6:30PM, 8:45PM, Sun. 6PM. One of the most popular and highly recognized standup comedians on the road today comes to Huntsville for five performances.
- Collectors & Shooters Gun Show: Oct. 14-15, Von Braun Center, 9AM-5PM. This Huntsville gun show is held at Von Braun Civic Center and hosted by Collectors and Shooters Company. All federal and local firearm laws and ordinances must be obeyed.
- Clift Farm Fall Festival: Oct. 14, Clift Farm Green Space, 11AM-4PM. Gather your friends, family, and fellow community members for a day of fall fun at Clift Farm.
- Records and Retro: Oct. 15, Orion Amphitheater, 11AM-5PM. And music lover will appreciate this event, featuring vendors selling old records, CDs and cassettes, among other music merch.
- Henry Rollins – Good to See You: Oct. 15, Mars Music Hall, 7PM. The legendary musician, film maker and author talks about his career and tells some great stories about the road.
Sports + fitness
I know college football is well underway, but basketball season is gearing up, so the next few months should include a ton of hoops and football. In the meantime, enjoy these weekend events:
- Huntsville High School Homecoming: Oct. 13, Milton Frank Stadium, 7PM. Huntsville High School celebrates homecoming as the Panthers take on Florence.
- Monte Sano 15K: Oct. 14, Monte Sano United Methodist, 7:30AM. Take part in a 15K run or 1-mile fun run on the mountain.
- Pink Lady 5K Walk & Run: Oct. 14, Big Spring Memorial Park (Athens), 8AM. The Pink Lady event raises awareness for breast cancer and funds for breast cancer research.
- North Alabama War Dawgs Preseason Game: Oct. 14, Mae Jemison High School, 6PM. Your very own North Alabama War Dawgs are back for a new season, and are playing a preseason game this Saturday night against Calhoun Community College.
- TAC/TVR Autocross Event: Oct. 15, Milton Frank Stadium, 9AM-5PM. Catch this exciting racing event — autocross is a timed competition through a road course marked with cones — this Sunday.
